Modern co-extruded polypropylene films have excellent moulding characteristics and even large containers such as paint tubs may be moulded with a smooth finish. IML label films are corona-treated for printing.

In many IML applications it is necessary for the film to hold electrostatic charge to allow "pinning" in the mould. However this may make feeding in the printing press difficult. Wrapid carefully control the conversion process so that all variables are near constant. This keeps feeding jams to a minimum.

IML Process

IML labels may be placed within an injection mould and fuse with the molten plastic that is injected into it. The label may be printed on the reel or sheet and then die-cut to suit the product and stacked. IML labels are usually placed in the mould by a pick and place robot and retained by air vacuum holes or electrostatic charge. Often label insertion & "pinning" can be achieved with virtually no increase in cycle time.
